How to Fund Your IBKR Account Using Wise (Philippines)
This is the simplest way to move money from your Philippine bank account into Interactive Brokers (IBKR) using Wise (formerly TransferWise).
Step 1. Create Two Wise Account Balances
- Create a Wise USD balance
- Create a Wise PHP balance
Step 2: Fund Your Wise PHP Balance
- From your Philippine bank account (BPI, BDO, UnionBank, GCash, Maya, SeaBank, etc.), transfer pesos into your Wise PHP account.
- You can use InstaPay (₱50k limit per transfer, near‑instant) or PESONet (larger amounts, same/next business day).
Step 3: Convert PHP to USD in Wise
Inside Wise, convert your PHP balance into USD at Wise’s real‑time exchange rate.
Now you’ll have USD funds ready in your Wise balance.
Step 4: Get IBKR Bank Details + Reference Number
Log in to your IBKR Client Portal.
Go to Transfer & Pay → Transfer Funds → Make a Deposit.
Select Currency = USD.
Select Deposit Method = Bank Wire.
IBKR will show you:
The bank account details where you should send the money (bank name, routing/SWIFT, account number).
Your unique IBKR reference number. This reference is crucial—it tells IBKR the funds belong to you.
Step 5: Send USD from Wise to IBKR
In Wise, go to Send Money.
Enter the IBKR bank details exactly as shown in your deposit instructions.
Paste the unique reference number into the Reference/Message field in Wise.
⚠️ Don’t skip this step!Confirm and send.
Step 6: Wait for Funds to Arrive
Wise will send your USD to IBKR by international wire transfer.
IBKR usually credits funds within hours to 1 business day once they receive them.
You’ll see the cash appear under Portfolio → Cash in IBKR.
Common Tips
Always include your IBKR reference number. Without it, your deposit may be delayed or rejected.
Test with a small amount first (₱1,000) to be sure your flow is correct.
Match names: Your Wise account name must match your IBKR account name (no third‑party deposits).
For amounts above ₱50k, expect a longer clearing time since PESONet batches once a day.
