The Books I Read When I Started Learning About Trading And Investing

Circa 2012 – When I started earning money from my first job after college, I then looked into how to grow my net-worth.

The usual advice was to save it up in the bank, or get a time-deposit or start a business.

Being my non-conformist self, I looked for different path.

On my research, I found Trading and Investing in the Stock Market.

These are the books that I read when I started my journey on the markets.

#1. The Trading Code

The Trading Code by Jason Cam

The first book I bought about trading. A very fitting name and focuses on the PSE.

I learned the stock symbols for blue-chip stocks (and basura stocks).

More about basura stocks on a future article.

Some notable blue-chip stocks are:
$AC Ayala Corporation

$BDO BDO Unibank, Inc.

$JFC Jollibee Foods Corporation

$SMC San Miguel Corporation

$TEL PLDT, Inc.

Very newbie friendly and informative. Covers most of the jargons that you’ll need to navigate the stock market.

I highly recommend this book to everyone interested in learning about trading.

#2. How I Made 2,000,000 in the Stock Market

How I Made 2,000,000 in the Stock Market by Nicolas Darvas

The second book about trading that I bought, maybe after a year of studying and I stumbled upon the Darvas Box Strategy.

Later found out that it was named after the inventor of the strategy which is Nicolas Darvas.

This book is the story behind this great man and inspired me to find my path and also be considered ‘great’ in my own way.

#3. Outliers: The Story of Success

Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell

You might say , that this does not look like a book about trading or investing?

Well, you are right!

Nicolas Darvas was an outlier! A successful trader.

On the journey of trading, you’ll also learn more about yourself. On your emotions and your perspective. Trading is skill that when achieved to a high level will bring prosperity.

This book is full of outliers and great people and how they attained their success. The content of this book inspired me to persist and be an outlier as well.

You might have heard of this popular quote that you can read on this book.

“It takes ten thousand hours to truly master anything. Time spent leads to experience; experience leads to proficiency; and the more proficient you are the more valuable you’ll be.” — Malcolm Gladwell

I am on my journey of my 10,000 hours on trading!

#4. Originals: How Non-Conformists Move The World

Originals: How Non-Conformists Move The World By Adam Grant

Another book not about trading, eh?

Yes, Originals covers the pitfalls and success of the front-runners on the industry. About how it may be out of your control on why you fail or succeed.

A great insight about the experiences of the people and the events that changed the world.

With trading, unexpected circumstances may arise that is beyond our control. The wisdom I received from this book has been instrumental on my acceptance and interpretation of losses and gains.
